Birds of a Feather

This is my "Birds of a Feather" quilt by Barb Adams and Alma Allen. I had so much fun collecting the fabrics to do the color palette that I wanted for this quilt. Below you will see some of the blocks in this quilt.

Don't you love the detail in the Blackbird Design patterns. I love their creativity.

What a fun quilt journey this has been. "Birds of a feather" by Alma Allen and Jan Patek of Blackbird Designs. For about a year I started collecting fabrics. I knew the color scheme I wanted was going to be in the browns, peaches, and pinks. The preparation of each little bird, leaf, flower and motif was like creating a beautiful world . If you look at my web site http://www. jinabarneydesignz.com you can see some of my other quilts that are also needle turn applique. My quilting buddies and I have each been working on our quilts ever since we went to a trunk show by Blackbird Designs at The Village Drygoods back in January 2008. I finished it by shadow quilting the whole quilt on my long arm machine and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Monthly Quilt Block 2008

This was a block of the month quilt designed for the year 2008 for beginners. A few of my neighbor friends wanted to learn to quilt and requested I teach some classes. Once a month for a year I designed and taught blocks to celebrate each month. I had no idea the quilt would end up so big. Really, I promise! It just kept going and going like the energizer bunny.

I had so many fun ideas I wanted to do, and some of the blocks I loved so much I just kept making more. Of course they all had to keep fitting into my vision of what I thought the quilt would look like.

The quilt starts in the center with a snowflake for January. Hearts along the outside for February. Windmills for March. April are the cute Easter baskets and as you can see I couldn't just make one I made twelve. May flowers were also cute and I kept sewing and sewing. June was a square in a square because I was trying to be simple. July are the cute stars and August are the flags that I love. September is the school house down in the bottom left corner celebrating back to school. Pumpkins at the top (or apples as I was told by a friend, either way they're fun) for October. November are the maple leaves and December are the stockings. One stocking for each of my four cute children who are too big to fight over which stocking is theirs. I have to say this was a fun project. You can see more of my projects at http://www.jinabarneydesignz.com

Now Designing For Riley Blake!

Talk about the chance of a lifetime! I have been given the opportunity to design quilts, fabric, patterns, and other related products for Riley Blake Designs. Their parent company has been in the fabric business for many years. Riley Blake Designs is a new division created for the needs of the high end quilter. I have been asked to help them enter the wonderful world of quilting. Can you say dream job? This has been so much fun. One of the great things has been showing our new fabric lines to all of my friends at the local quilt shops. We will be introducing many of these at Quilt Market in Pittsburgh. In the mean time, I will share some of my quilt patterns with you as they are finished! The first one I have for you features our new 100% cotton fabric line "Just Dreamy" by "My Minds Eye". I call it "Dreaming." It will be available in both cotton and flannel.

I really had fun designing this pattern. I was able to use every piece of fabric from the line. Ask your favorite fabric shop if they have ordered "Just Dreamy" yet.
